Construction Industrial Hygiene Testing

Accredited exposure monitoring for general contractors, subcontractors, and construction safety managers — respirable silica by XRD, noise dosimetry, lead, asbestos, and dust. OSHA 1926.1153 Table 1 support, 1-day rush turnaround, and sampling kits shipped free to job sites anywhere in the U.S. when AGT Labs performs the analysis, all analyzed in-house at our AIHA IHLAP-accredited (LAP-101470) Houston lab.

Why Construction Sites Test

On a construction site, the exposure data is your compliance record — and your legal defense

OSHA Enforcement

Silica (1926.1153), lead (1926.62), asbestos, and noise (1910.95) all carry construction obligations in every state. Skip monitoring or Table 1 controls and you face citations, penalties, and stop-work orders.

Irreversible Disease

Silicosis, lead poisoning, and noise-induced hearing loss are permanent and 100% preventable. Accredited data proves your controls actually protect the crew.

Bid & Liability

Owners and GCs increasingly require documented IH data from subs. A defensible monitoring history wins bids and shields you from exposure claims.

Table 1 vs. Air Monitoring — When You Need Data

Full Table 1 controls = exemption. Anything less = monitoring.

OSHA's silica standard for construction gives you a choice: fully implement the specified engineering controls in Table 1 for your matched task — water suppression, LEV, vacuum dust collection, and the listed respirator — and you're exempt from baseline air monitoring. Implement them and you're covered.

But three common situations push you into mandatory objective air monitoring: the task isn't listed on Table 1; the specified control can't be fully implemented on your site; or you want to verify your controls are actually holding exposures below the 50 µg/m³ PEL. In each case, full-shift personal XRD monitoring from an accredited lab documents your compliance status — and protects you in an inspection. See our crystalline silica testing page for the full Table 1 breakdown and sampling protocol.

How It Works for Contractors

Built Around a Job-Site Schedule

1

Request Kits

Pre-weighed filters, cyclones, dosimeters, and loaner pumps shipped to your site or office, anywhere in the U.S.

2

Sample the Task

Full-shift personal monitoring on the worker performing the regulated task. Log flows and times.

3

Ship or Pickup

Pre-paid return label from any U.S. job site, or same-day Houston courier. Logged same day before 2 PM CST.

4

Accredited Analysis

XRD silica, ICP-AES metals, dosimetry processing — all in-house, rush available.

5

Compliance Report

Results vs. OSHA PEL/Action Level, ready for your file and the owner's compliance record.

Compliance Runs the Length of the Project

Silica and noise exposure change as a build moves from demolition to finish — and OSHA expects monitoring to keep pace. A standing account holds your media across every site, reserves rush slots for stop-work situations, and applies volume pricing across the whole project and crew — including projects spread across multiple states.

Where We Work

Construction Sectors We Support

Sampling kits ship to job sites anywhere in the United States with a pre-paid return label — your location doesn't change the analysis, the accreditation, or the turnaround. Same-day courier pickup is available across Houston and the Gulf Coast.

Commercial & High-Rise

Concrete cutting, coring, and grinding on commercial cores, campuses, and high-rise builds — silica and noise monitoring for Table 1 alternatives.

Infrastructure & Heavy Civil

Roadwork, bridges, and utilities with pile drivers, jackhammers, and milling — multi-year projects needing ongoing silica and noise data.

Renovation & Demolition

Pre-1980 buildings where silica, lead, and asbestos hazards overlap — consolidated sampling under one chain of custody.

Houston & the Gulf Coast: Same-Day Courier

Crews on downtown, Galleria, and Energy Corridor high-rise builds, Ship Channel civil work, and Harris County infrastructure projects get same-day courier pickup with same-day log-in before 2:00 PM CST. Everywhere else in the U.S., kits go out and come back on a pre-paid label — same lab, same accreditation, same rush options.

Construction FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you serve construction projects outside Texas?
Yes. Every sample is analyzed at our Houston lab, so your project location doesn't change the service you receive. We ship a pre-weighed sampling kit — cyclones, filters, dosimeters, chain-of-custody paperwork, and a pre-paid return label, free when AGT Labs performs the analysis — to any job site in the United States, and samples are logged the day they arrive when received before 2:00 PM CST. Our AIHA IHLAP (LAP-101470) and NVLAP accreditations are recognized nationwide for OSHA compliance reporting. Same-day courier pickup is available across Houston and the Gulf Coast.
What silica method do you use for construction samples?
Respirable crystalline silica by X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) per NIOSH 7500 and OSHA ID-142 — our AIHA IHLAP-accredited method. XRD quantifies quartz, cristobalite, and tridymite separately, which matters where cutting, grinding, and demolition can generate more than one polymorph. FTIR (NIOSH 7602) is available in-house but is not within our AIHA IHLAP scope, so we recommend XRD for accredited compliance reporting.
Do you support OSHA Table 1 compliance?
Yes. If you fully implement the engineering controls in OSHA 1926.1153 Table 1 for a matched task, you're exempt from baseline air monitoring. When a control can't be fully implemented, the task isn't on Table 1, or you want to verify controls are working, our accredited XRD personal monitoring documents compliance with the 50 µg/m³ PEL and 25 µg/m³ Action Level.
Can you handle multiple job sites or multi-phase projects?
Yes. Standing accounts get held media and kits, reserved rush capacity, and volume pricing across sites and project phases — from pre-construction baseline through active monitoring to clearance, all managed by one coordinator, including projects spread across multiple states.
How fast can I get results for a stop-work situation?
1-day rush turnaround is available once the sample reaches the lab, and samples received before 2:00 PM CST are logged the same day. For out-of-region job sites, overnight shipping puts you on the same rush schedule as a local client. Call (713) 453-6090 to reserve a rush slot for time-critical exposure or stop-work responses.
Do you supply sampling kits, cyclones, and pumps?
Yes. We provide pre-weighed PVC filters, cyclones (Dorr-Oliver, SKC, BGI GS-3), noise dosimeters, spore traps, chain-of-custody paperwork, and pre-paid return shipping, plus calibrated loaner pumps for qualifying accounts. Kits ship free to job sites anywhere in the U.S. when AGT Labs performs the analysis.
