Air Monitoring for Warehouses, Distribution Centers & Cold Storage

Warehousing and distribution facilities carry a distinct exposure profile driven by material-handling equipment and building systems rather than a manufacturing process — diesel and gas-powered forklifts and yard trucks at loading docks, ammonia refrigeration in cold-storage facilities, conveyor and dock noise, dust from bulk storage and damaged-pallet cleanup, and indoor air quality for the office and break-room space built into most warehouse shells. AGT Labs is the accredited industrial hygiene lab behind that monitoring, analyzing every sample in-house in Houston.

Distribution networks span every state, and the standards don't change with the zip code. We serve facilities anywhere in the United States — kits ship out, samples come back by prepaid return label, and analysis is identical wherever it was collected.

Warehousing & Distribution Analytes — OSHA vs ACGIH Limits

For several facility analytes the OSHA limit and the health-based guideline are far apart. Both are shown, since most operators now set internal triggers against the lower number. These are federal limits and apply in every state.

Warehousing & Distribution IH Testing — FAQ

What IH testing do warehouses and distribution centers need?
The most common needs are diesel particulate matter and carbon monoxide from forklift and dock-door traffic, noise from conveyor and material-handling equipment, respirable and total dust from bulk storage and damaged-pallet cleanup, ammonia monitoring if the facility runs an industrial refrigeration system for cold storage, and indoor air quality or mold checks for office and break-room space built into the warehouse shell.
Is this different from your Dallas-Fort Worth and San Antonio location pages?
Yes, and they work together. This page covers the analytes and lab methods for warehousing and distribution as an industry, wherever a facility is located. Our Dallas-Fort Worth and San Antonio pages are regional hubs with on-site sampling, courier pickup and equipment-loan support for logistics and distribution facilities in North and South-Central Texas. If your warehouse is in the DFW or San Antonio metro, start with the regional page for local logistics; every sample either way is analyzed at the same accredited Houston lab.
Do you test for diesel exhaust from forklifts?
Yes. Diesel particulate matter is analyzed by NIOSH Method 5040, and carbon monoxide is monitored by direct-read instrument or sorbent tube. Both are common concerns in enclosed or partially enclosed warehouse space where propane, diesel or gas-powered forklifts and yard trucks operate near loading docks.
We run a cold-storage refrigeration system — do you test for ammonia?
Yes. Anhydrous ammonia is the standard refrigerant in most large-scale industrial cold-storage systems, and leaks or maintenance work can create exposure. We analyze ammonia by NIOSH 6015 and can scope a monitoring plan around your machine room, dock and cold-storage floor areas.
Do you serve warehouses outside Texas?
Yes — facilities anywhere in the United States. Every sample is analyzed at our Houston lab regardless of where it was collected, so a distribution center in Georgia, Ohio or California gets the same accredited analysis and turnaround as one on the Gulf Coast. We ship a kit scoped to your facility with a prepaid return label; courier pickup and on-site CIH sampling are available across our Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas footprint.
Do older warehouse buildings need asbestos testing?
Often, yes. Warehouses converted from older industrial buildings, or built before the 1980s, commonly contain asbestos in floor tile, mastic, roofing material or pipe insulation. Bulk material analysis is performed under our NVLAP accreditation (101793-0, PLM only); PJLA covers both bulk PLM and air PCM clearance sampling for renovation or re-tenanting work.
How fast is analysis and can you set up a standing account?
Standard turnaround is 5+ business days from log-in, with rush tiers down to 1 business day (+100%). Samples received before 2:00 PM CST are logged the same day. Multi-site logistics operators run on a standing account with reserved capacity, consistent methods across every facility, and a single point of contact.
